Aboriginal Family Safety Strategy

Description

Aboriginal people experience family violence at disproportionately high rates with devastating impacts on their own health and wellbeing, and on the health and wellbeing of their families and community. The contributing factors to family violence in Aboriginal communities are different to non-Aboriginal communities, and include colonisation, dispossession, intergenerational trauma and racism.

The Strategy sets the vision that Aboriginal families and communities in Western Australia are safe, strong, and happy, enabling our future generations to thrive. The Strategy has been designed in partnership with the Western Australian Aboriginal community, Aboriginal stakeholders, and Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations. Over 1,000 people contributed to developing the Strategy with a summary available outlining key engagements.
