This report provides background notes for two workshops associated with the 2009 Community safety and indigenous peoples conference in Ottawa. Topics for the first workshop, on the main trends and developments include migration and the increasing urbanisation of indigenous peoples, remaining rural and remote communities, indigenous rights and governance, restorative justice and the safety of indigenous women. Topics for the second workshop, on community safety partnerships include the key elements of partnerships – a holistic approach, participation, capacity building and evaluation. Examples of Australian programs and partnerships are included.
