An evaluation is presented of the effects regarding measurable health and social outcomes, community perceptions and alcohol motivated behaviours. On 27 September 2007, the Director of Liquor Licensing released the decision to restrict the sale of packaged liquor in Fitzroy Crossing. Two years following the implementation of the restraint, research has revealed continuing social and health benefits for the residents of the area. The benefits found are outlined, from a community perspective and from the perception of health organisations. The restriction’s effectiveness is discussed in regard to Sobering Up Centres, service delivery, police, the prevalence of domestic violence, and road traffic. The impacts on licensed venues, commercial services and community movement are elaborated on. It is concluded that the outcomes of the banning of alcohol have had overtly positive effects upon the community.
