The Victorian Legislative Council’s Legal and Social Committee tabled the final report for the Inquiry into children affected by parental incarceration to Parliament on 4 August 2022.
The Committee received 43 submissions and spoke with over 15 witness groups across three days of public hearings as well as speaking with witnesses with lived experience.
The Committee also took the opportunity to meet key stakeholders with working expertise to brainstorm desired outcomes and goals for children affected by parental incarceration; as well as sending a delegation of Members to New Zealand to meet with Ministers, decision makers, stakeholder groups and advocacy agencies about the challenges they face and the positive initiatives that have been implemented throughout the country.
The report contains 69 findings and 29 recommendations to the Victorian Government with a response to be provided within six months.
