This chapter focuses on the adequacy of data relating to Indigenous people generated during each phase of the criminal justice system. The chapter discusses, and notes data inadequacies in, the following resources: police statistics on offenders; police custody surveys; victimisation surveys; court statistics; legal aid services, including Legal Aid Commissions and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Legal Services; and custodial statistics, including prison population statistics and data on juvenilesin corrective service institutions. The chapter concludes by noting the need for a national integrated system of criminal information reporting.
