The Special Taskforce on Domestic and Family Violence in Queensland (the Taskforce) was established in 2014 to define the domestic and family violence landscape in Queensland, and make recommendations to inform the development of a long term vision and strategy for Government and the community. The Taskforce received submissions, met with groups of victims, service providers and community leaders, hosted awareness raising events, commissioned focus groups, and undertook a survey (961 responses). The report includes background to the issue of domestic and family violence and analyses of the approaches of jurisdictions beyond Queensland. It identifies Aboriginal and Torres Islanders as a particular vulnerable group, evaluating existing programs targeting Indigenous Australians and recommendations for other government actions. The final report provides recommendations and insights gathered and developed by the Taskforce. Three broad areas of reform form the basis for the report – culture and attitude, integrated responses, and justice and the law. Seperate appendixes include additional information including evaluations of the legislative frameworks in Qld and other Australian jurisdictions.
