Description
Despite acknowledgement of the over-representation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families in statutory child protection services across Australia and understanding of the impact or broader social and economic disadvantage they experience, it is clear current approaches to ensuring the safety and well-being of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and their families are not working. This paper examines the scope and nature of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander over-representation and details strategies for how this can be more effectively addressed in Australia.
