Overcoming Indigenous disadvantage in Western Australia: Report: Key Indicators-2005

Description

This report has been prepared to guide the delivery of better services to Indigenous people in the State and to measure the impact of these services over time. It compiles a wide range of data relating to priority Indigenous outcome areas. The indicators are grouped according to these outcome areas, not according to functional areas of government departments. This reflects the underpinning principles of the framework as a driver for change, which is that no single government agency can make a significant difference in isolation from other agencies and, most importantly, without the commitment and involvement of Indigenous people. It should be emphasised that this report is based on indicator outcome measures and does not contain process indicators, although collaborative processes are essential for its implementation. This framework does provide the sound foundation for a whole-of-government approach that partners the Indigenous community in achieving lasting outcomes for Indigenous peoples in Western Australia. It forms robust basis for decision-making in WA, and more effectively guides the development of appropriate policies and services. The report includes regional analyses, and provides examples of programs, projects and initiatives that have been, or have the potential to be, successful in shifting indicators. These are designed to stimulate discussion and thinking around opportunities for collaborative action.
