Trends in Child and Youth Prosecutions in New Zealand 2002-2011

Description

This report identifies the key trends in the New Zealand Ministry of Justice’s Child and Youth Prosecution Statistics 2011. The report focuses on the characteristics and outcomes for children and young people who face charges in court. It reveals a decrease of the number of children and young people recorded as Maori coming to court between 2008 and 2011. Despite these numbers, the report reveals that Maori children and young people are still overrepresented in court statistics, and in 2011 made up 54 per cent of all children and young people in all courts.
